LSUS Baseball Set for Home Opener

February 08, 2008

Shreveport, La. - The LSUS Pilots (5-2, 5-0) will host the Belhaven College Blazers (2-4, 0-3) in a three-game weekend series that features two perennial Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and national powers.

Since 2004, either LSUS or Belhaven has finished the season at the top of the GCAC standings.  In 2006 and 2007, Belhaven won the regular season title outright, but the Pilots captured the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference tournament championship in each of those season.

The Pilots open their home season with a perfect 5-0 conference record, after sweeping both Loyola University of New Orleans and Spring Hill College in their first two conference series.  However, LSUS enters tonight's contest on a brief two-game losing streak, falling in both games of Tuesday's doubleheader against NCAA Division-1 opponent Houston Baptist University.

The Pilots are expected to send Cody Lott (2-0, 2.08 ERA) to the mound for the series opener, while the Blazers will counter with Kyle Buescher (0-0, 2.08).  The start is Buescher's first of the season.

Tonight's first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM, while tomorrow's doubleheader will begin at 1:00 PM.
