LSUS Baseball heads to Montgomery for Opening Round

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The NAIA announced on Sunday evening that the LSU Shreveport Pilots baseball team will be the no. 1 seed in the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round Bracket in Montgomery, Alabama. The Pilots will play Game Three (6:00 p.m. CST) on Thursday, May 12, against the winner of the first game of the day between the no. 4 seed William Woods (Mo.) and the no. 5 seed Huntington (Ind.).This marks the third straight year that the Pilots have qualified under the new format that began in 2009. The Pilots have an overall record of 2-4 in the opening round and will be the number one seed for the second consecutive season. The Pilots earned their way to the Opening Round this year as the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament Champion after adding the Regular Season Title to their resume.
Four out of the five teams in the Montgomery bracket were either ranked in the final NAIA Top 25 poll or received votes.
The no. 2 seed is Auburn University-Montgomery as they received an at-large bid and finished the season with a 40-17 overall record. AUM makes their second appearance in the Opening Round with a record of 3-2.
The no. 3 seed is Union (Tenn.) (38-15) as they come into the tournament as the TranSouth Athletic Conference Tournament Champion. This will mark the third appearance for Union with a record of 2-4 in the Opening Round.
The no. 4 seed is the American Midwest Conference Tournament Champion, William Woods (Mo.) (34-16). This will be their first appearance in the Opening Round. The no. 5 seed is the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament Champion Huntington (22-23). They look to win their first Opening Round game in their second appearance with a record of 0-2.
