January 11, 2010
Shreveport, LA-The LSU Shreveport athletics program will finish the final chapter of competing in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference at season’s end. LSUS will compete in the Red River Athletic Conference beginning with the 2010-2011 season joining 13 other schools.
LSU Shreveport joined the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference in April of 2000. Since then the Pilots have claimed four GCAC Regular Season Titles; Baseball won the title in 2005 and Men’s Basketball has three titles (2005, 2006, 2008). The Pilots have also done well in post season play dominating the GCAC Tournament winning 7 tournament championships; Baseball won three in a row (2006, 2007, 2008) while men’s basketball have won 4 in a row (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009).
It was announced earlier this year that Belhaven College, Loyola University, Spring Hill College, University of Mobile and William Carey University would also depart the GCAC but with a different destination. These five schools will become member of the Southern States Athletic Conference.
