LSUS ATHLETES EXCEL IN CLASSROOM
June 08, 2010
Shreveport, La.- Thirty-one LSU Shreveport athletes met the requirements for the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Honor Roll for the 2009-2010 academic year: Baseball (12), Men’s Basketball (2), Women’s Basketball (5), Men’s Soccer (1), Women’s Soccer (6), and Women’s Tennis (5).
Each athlete met the following requirements: a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher, sophomore academic standing or higher, and participation during their sport’s season.
“Academics are something we take very seriously here at LSUS. It takes a strong dedicated individual to compete at the NAIA level and still have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. We believe that we have some of the finest student-athletes in the country,” said LSUS Athletic Director Doug Robinson.
The baseball team had 13 members on the list with six of them making their second or third appearance. Andrew Blubaugh, David Bradley, Brandon Bravata, Andrew Brouillette and Josh Todd made the honor roll for the third time while Bubba Jordan made it for the second time.
Curtis Beaudoin, Jared Mata, Shawn Moy, Jeff Nadeau, Cole Newell, Kyle Pearson, and Ben Suit were the newcomers to this year’s list.
The men’s basketball team had two members on this year’s GCAC Honor Roll, John Anthony Anglin and Jared Stevenson. Stevenson was also honored on the previous list while Anglin makes his second appearance on the Honor Roll list.
The women’s basketball team claims five spots on the list with three returnees and two newcomers. Tish Flowers makes the list for the third time while Callie Davis and Valerie Huizar are awarded for the second time. Taylor Morgan and Christina Sepulvado make the list for the first time while at LSU Shreveport.
The soccer program had a total of seven members on this year’s GCAC Honor Roll list with Joseph Eades being the lone member from the men’s team while the women had six members included. Caitlin Smith was the only returnee on the list while Rachael Knight, Jessica McDonald, Kim Phelps, Ashley Pope, and Jennifer Zamani are on the Honor Roll for the first time in their LSUS career.
The women’s tennis team had five members named to this year’s list: Anne Kelly, Ali Lieberman, Katie Moak, Lauren Simmons, and Haley Yelverton.
