LSU-Shreveport Stays Undefeated

May 11, 2006

Montgomery, Ala.—Matt Clayman pitched seven strong innings as LSU-Shreveport continues their undefeated run at the NAIA Region XIII Baseball Championship.

Clayman limited Belhaven to six hits and two runs in picking up the win.  He was very dominating while he was in the game as he had five strikeouts and only allowed one bases on balls.  During the seven innings he pitched, he allowed LSUS to build up a 12-2 lead before leaving.

Belhaven made a game of it, as they pushed across seven runs during the final two innings against the LSUS relievers.  Belhaven actually out hit LSUS 15-13, but could never catch up to the Pilots.

Steffan Primeaux and Dusty Maddox each had home runs for LSUS and Primeaux finished the game three-for-four with two RBI’s and three runs scored.  Dustin Bissonette had two hits as did Riley Cook, Colin Moro and Brandon Magierowski.

For Belhaven, Buddy Wyrick hit a home run and finished with two hits and four RBI’s.  Thomas Royals had three hits in the loss and David Gilbert, Bryan Bennett, Ricky Owens and Wyrick all finished with two hits.

Braxton Larkin pitched 6.1 innings allowing eight hits and 10 runs, but only five were earned as Belhaven’s defense did not help out any with four errors allowing seven unearned runs.

Belhaven now drops into the loser’s bracket where they will either play AUM or Lee University in an elimination game.  Those two teams were playing the late game on Thursday evening.  LSUS moves to 40-21 overall and Belhaven falls to 41-20 with the loss.
