Lady Pilots Win Tenth Game

January 03, 2009

JACKSON, Miss. – Valerie Huizar’s 19 points lifted the LSUS Lady Pilots to their eighth consecutive win, as they defeated East Texas Baptist University 61-47 on Saturday afternoon at the Belhaven Classic.

Although the Lady Pilots struggled shooting the ball in the contest, especially from the three-point line (3-for-15), the LSUS defense turned in another solid performance for the second straight game.  LSUS limited the Lady Tigers to just 25% shooting from the field and forced 17 turnovers in the win.

LSUS fell behind 3-2 just one minute into the contest, but after a made field goal by Jamien Arvie gave the Lady Pilots a 5-3 lead, they would never trail again in the game.  LSUS extended their lead to as many as 11 points late in the first half, before entering the break with a 29-20 lead.

Arvie finished the game in double-figures for the second game in-a-row with 10 points, while adding a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double.  Tish Flowers ended the afternoon with 13 points.

LSUS (10-1) finished non-conference play with a school-best start to begin the season and will enter Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play on Thursday night when they face the Xavier Gold Nuggets at The Dock.
