LADY PILOTS WIN PRESEASON OPENER
August 21, 2009
The LSUS Lady Pilots defeated the Tyler Junior College Apaches 4-0 in a preseason exhibition game at The Swamp on Friday afternoon on the campus of LSUS.
The Lady Pilots got on the board at 29:03 into the first half with a goal from freshman forward, Brooke Martin (San Antonio, Texas).
The second goal came at the end of the first half at 44:55, by junior mid-fielder, Michelle Zamani (Lafayette, Louisiana).
The Lady Pilots continued to put pressure on the TJC goal keepers in the second half adding two more goals. The first came after Caitlin Smith’s (San Antonio, Texas) corner kick to Rachael Knight (Covington, Louisiana) who then passed to junior, Ashley Pope (Belleville, Ontario). Pope then found the back right corner of the goal to give the Lady Pilots a 3-0 lead at 4:14 into the second half.
Jessica McDonald, a sophomore from Burleson, Texas, scored the final goal of the game at 11:35 into the second half.
Tyler Junior College had a total of twelve shots on goal, but the stellar goal tending efforts by the Lady Pilot Goal Keepers kept the Apaches off the scoreboard.
Torie Calhoun, a freshman from Tyler, Texas, started the game in goal and played the first thirty minutes of the game. Calhoun had one save to turn over the shutout to Shay Wells (Hammond, Louisiana).
Wells, the only returning keeper the Pilots have, also was very stingy at goal and saved two shots to keep the shutout in tack for the freshman, Abbi Dicosta (Cibolo, Texas).
TJC took their shots at the young keeper, but Dicosta held her own as she had nine saves in the second half to preserve the shutout.
The next game for the Lady Pilots will be Sunday, August 23, at 1 PM in Jacksonville, Texas as they battle Lon Morris College.
