Lady Pilots win Fifth Straight

SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots defeated the SAGU Lady Lions 63-37 in Red River Athletic Conference play on Monday night at The Dock for their fifth consecutive win to remain in second place in the regular season standings.

LSUS (11-5, 9-1 RRAC) had an off night shooting the basketball as they finished the evening just 38% from the floor. The offense got a lift making 50% from the three-point line going eight of 16. Sharde Henry nailed three of four from downtown as she finished with a game-high 15 points thanks to the arc while Christy Willis and Brittany Maddox also had success from downtown each making a pair. Willis had a 10 point night while Maddox tossed in nine off the bench.

Jenna Diakos turned in her sixth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The LSUS defense did the job forcing 14 turnovers and holding SAGU to just 25% from the field. The Lady Pilots fought hard and collected 44 total rebounds compared to the Lady Lions 36.

SAGU (5-11, 2-8 RRAC) never lead in the contest and tied it just once as they finished with just two scorers in double figures with Gabby Bruner and Nia Winston each with 10 points.

LSUS finally started to hit shots as both teams shot the ball poorly in the first half of the first half with only 15 points being scored between the two at the midway point of the half as both teams had shot less than 25%. The Lady Pilots picked up the pace and finish the half at 43% from the floor while the visitors rallied to get their shooting percentage to 29%.

The next game for the Lady Pilots will be at The Dock against Paul Quinn on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 5:00 p.m.
