Lady Pilots Win Again
January 25, 2009
New Orleans, La. - No. 22 LSUS continued their recent success on Saturday night, as they knocked off the Southern-New Orleans Lady Knights, 57-51.
Defense has been the theme for this year's version of the Lady Pilots women's basketball team, and tonight their defense propelled them to another victory. The Lady Pilots came up with two big stops down the stretch to earn their 14th straight win and 16th overall.
LSUS limited SUNO to just 34% shooting from the field, including a dismal 13% from the three-point stripe. The Lady Pilots didn't fare much better from the field, but once again found a way to earn another victory.
Janai Sells came off the bench to lead the Lady Pilots with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Whitney Hollins also finished in double figures with 11.
LSUS connected on 22-of-32 free throws, which was ultimately the difference in the contest, as the Lady Knights missed on 12 of their 21 attempts from the stripe.
LSUS (16-1, 6-0) is alone atop the GCAC standings and will take on second-place Loyola-NO on Monday night in New Orleans.
