Lady Pilots win 11th straight

DALLAS, Tex. - The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots maintain the top spot in the Red River Athletic Conference race after a 60-49 win over the Paul Quinn Lady Tigers on Thursday night.LSUS (17-5, 14-1 RRAC) never trailed in the contest leading for most of the game in double digits as the stretched out to as big as a 17-point lead in the first half only to be dwindled down to a 13-point advantage at the break. The only time the game was tied was with 18:30 to go in the first half when Paul Quinn's Dominique Mitchell hit a two-point jumper to tie the game at two only to be erased 27 seconds later by a Jenna Diakos' layup to put the Lady Pilots in the lead for good and started a 9-0 run.
PQC (5-16, 4-10 RRAC) managed to trim down the visitors' lead to single digits in the second half as the Lady Pilots only led by five with 10 minutes to play but then pulled away and regained a double-digit lead as their lead got as large as 13 points in the second half.
Overall the Lady Pilots shot 47% from the field for the game including a 60% performance in the second half while the Lady Tigers shot just 35% for the game but shot much better in the second half than they did the first. LSUS outscored the home team in the paint 48-34.
Turnovers were not an issue in the game as each team turned the ball over 14 times while the three-point line was not a threat either as LSUS attempted just three without converting as PQC made only one in 13 attempts.
Jennifer Hicks led all scorers putting up 19 points for the Lady Pilots while Jenna Diakos had 16. Sharde Henry had eight points while Meoshi Bradley tossed in seven and Christy Willis six. Willis had the game-high eight assists.
PQC's Chaniese Turner led all scorers with 20 points while Thomeshia Smith rounded out the double-digit scorers for the home team with 12 points. Mitchell was the game's only double-digit rebounder with 11 boards.
The Lady Pilots collected more boards than their opponent winning the battle underneath 38-29. Henry led the way with nine rebounds while Hicks and Willis each had seven. Diakos pulled down five rebounds.
LSUS had 12 takeaways via the steal as Henry led the Lady Pilot defense with five while Brittany Maddox had two.
The next game for the Lady Pilots will be this Saturday at Bacone in Muskogee, Oklahoma, at 2:00 p.m. LSUS picked up the win earlier in the season at The Dock 70-67 over the Bacone Lady Warriors. Coming into Saturday's game the Lady Warriors have lost three games in a row.
