Lady Pilots Victorious in Home Opener
November 06, 2008
Shreveport, La. - There was reason to celebrate on Thursday night at The Dock, as the Lady Pilots picked up a 79-76 victory over Paul Quinn to open the season.
Senior Quan Joseph pumped in a game-high 20 points and 15 rebounds, while four other Lady Pilots scored in doubles figures with Valerie Huizar (16), Tish Flowers (14), Whitney Hollins (13) and Jamien Arvie (10) each topping the double-digit mark.
Despite committing 31 turnovers in the contest, the Lady Pilots found a way to pull out the victory versus a scrappy Lady Tigers team.
The Lady Pilots led 40-36 at the half, but Paul Quinn took a one-point lead with ten minutes left in the contest on a basket by Shaniqua Days. However, the Lady Pilots went on a 9-4 run over the next four minutes to take a five-point lead, one they would not relinquish for the rest of the game.
The Lady Tigers cut the Lady Pilots lead down to one with 30 seconds remaining, but Huizar connected on two free-throws and the Lady Pilots defense forced a wild shot by Paul Quinn as time expired.
The Lady Pilots outrebounded the visitors 55-37 for the game, while shooting 16-for-18 in the second half from the free-throw line.
LSUS (1-0) will host Jarvis Christian next Tuesday at The Dock.
