Lady Pilots top Queens 58-51 at The Dock
November 20, 2006
Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Lady Pilots picked up a huge 58-51 victory over the Wayland Baptist University Queens this weekend to improve to 3-1 overall this season.
LSUS led by as many as 11-points in the first half Saturday night before seeing their lead diminish to 31-26 at the break.
Despite losing leading scorer Kacie Cryer near the end of the half to a game ending injury, the Lady Pilots held off the Queens who cut the lead to 37-34 at the 14:58 mark to preserve a 58-51 victory.
The Lady Pilots shot a season high 52% (11-of-21) from the field in the first half which was followed by a 29% (7-of-24) exhibition in the second half. The one constant for the Lady Pilots offense however has been their ability to connect from the free throw line. LSUS capitalized on 21-of-24 attempts, increasing their season percentage to 71%.
“We played very hard on Saturday and beat a very good team. Our defensive intensity has been good all year, now we must find a way to be consistent offensively,” commented Head Coach Ronnie Howell.
Coach Howell and his Lady Pilots must turn their focus to Tuesday nights match-up against East Texas Baptist University Lady Tigers. The Lady Pilots will look to avenge an 80-65 loss in 2005 at the hands of the Lady Tigers in Marshall, TX. This time the Lady Pilots will look to use the home court advantage at The Dock, where they have posted a 10-4 record dating back to last season, to top the Lady Tigers.
Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
