Lady Pilots tie Southwest

October 07, 2011
SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots soccer team finished with a 1-1 tie against the Southwest Lady Mustangs on Thursday afternoon at The Swamp.

After nearly 80 minutes with no goal, Southwest (2-6-1, 0-4-1 RRAC) found the back of the net during the 79th minute with a goal from Andie Nakamura to break the scoreless tie and give the Lady Mustangs a one goal advantage with 11 minutes to play.

LSUS (5-3-1, 2-0-1) had appeared to let the game slip away but Heather Nosky sent a pass toward the goal and found Kim Phelps who kicked it in for the game-tying goal with 1:31 to play. The goal gave Phelps her third goal of the season and Nosky her first assist. Both teams failed to score in the final minute so the game went to overtime.

The Lady Pilots survived the first overtime as Southwest took three shots to LSUS' none. The second overtime saw the Lady Pilots take the 3-1 edge but again neither team found the back of the net as the game ended in a tie.

Southwest outshot the Lady Pilots 12-11 but LSUS had more shots on goal edging the Lady Mustangs 5-4.

The next game for the Lady Pilots will be on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against the Texas Wesleyan Lady Rams at The Swamp.
