Lady Pilots take season opener over Tigers, 64-57

November 04, 2006

Dallas, TX---The LSUS Lady Pilots took on the Paul Quinn College Tigers Friday night at the Davis Field House in their 2006-2007 season opener. The Lady Pilots trailed 29-28 at the half, but rebounded their way to a 64-57 victory behind a 17-point, 11-rebound performance from Kacie Cryer.

The Lady Pilots finish shooting just 29% from the field, but out rebounded the Tigers by a final tally of 55-40, including 34 on the offensive end which proved to be the difference in the contest.

“I am a little concerned about our shooting percentage tonight, but the effort was there. We hit the offensive glass very hard and created a lot of good scoring opportunities and second chance points,” commented Lady Pilots Head Coach Ronnie Howell.

LSUS struggled from the perimeter but proved to be too much for the Tigers in the post. Janai Sells collected 14-points and seven rebounds to go along with Cryer’s team high 17-points and 11-rebounds.

“Our post player’s played very strong and took the ball to the basket. If we continue to hit the glass the way we did tonight, good things will continue to happen for this team,” said Howell.

The Lady Pilots back court struggled from the floor, but created 18-steals and combined for 14-assists which were highlighted by a six point, five steals, and two assists performance from Eddie Leonards.

LSUS All-Conference senior guard Jessica Kelly finished with 16-points and six rebounds while sophomore Quan Joseph rounded off the Lady Pilots offense with four points and eight rebounds.
