Lady Pilots Squeeze Past Lady Bulldogs

December 07, 2007

Hawkins, Texas - The LSUS Lady Pilots picked up their third victory of the season, with a 61-57 victory over the Jarvis Christian Lady Bulldogs on Thursday night.

Two nights after posting 21 points and 9 rebounds in a loss to Texas Wesleyan, junior Quan Joseph once again put the Lady Pilots on her back, but this time it led to a victory.

With the Lady Pilots clinging to just a two-point lead at 59-57, senior Kacie Cryer headed to the free-throw line for a one-and-one with 12 seconds left.  Cryer's front-end attempt bounced off the front of the rim, but Joseph pulled down a huge offensive rebound to maintain possession for the Lady Pilots.  Joseph was then immediately fouled, and sent to the line for two shots.

Joseph calmly knocked down a pair of free-throws, icing the game for the Lady Pilots, and giving them a 61-57 victory over a Jarvis Christian team that had spoiled the Lady Pilots home opener earlier this season.

Joseph finished the contest with a game-high 17 points and career-high 18 rebounds.

Senior Edie Leonards was the only other Lady Pilot to register double-figures, finishing the game with 14 points.

The Lady Pilots (3-4) will travel down I-49 on Sunday to face UL-Lafayette in an exhibition contest.

Sunday's tip is set for 2:00 PM.
