December 06, 2008
Shreveport, La. - The LSUS Lady Pilots moved to 7-1 on the season with a 94-63 victory over Texas Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at The Dock.
Junior Valerie Huizar scored a career-high 26 points, including seven made three-point baskets in the contest. Whitney Hollins and Tish Flowers each scored 11 points in the game, as the Lady Pilots scored a season-high 94 points, while shooting a season-high 54% (32-for-59) from the field.
LSUS trailed by two points early in the contest, but a 14-2 run over a three-minute span midway through the first half helped the Lady Pilots open up a 23-13 lead. The Lady Rams then went on a 7-0 run of their own to cut the lead back to just three points, but a 22-10 run by the Lady Pilots to end the half gave them a 45-30 lead at the break.
The Lady Pilots continued to shoot the ball well in the second, extending their lead to 23 points halfway through the final 20 minutes and eventually pulling away for a 31-point win.
LSUS dominated the Lady Rams in almost every facet of the game, outshooting, outrebounding and outhustling the visitors for the entire game. The Lady Pilots finished the contest with a 43-31 rebounding advantage, while forward Jamien Arvie pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
With today’s win, the Lady Pilots have now won five games in-a-row and are off to a school-best 7-1 start. LSUS will be back in action versus Paul Quinn on December 15 in Dallas.
