Lady Pilots sink Ragin Cajuns in exhibition game

November 14, 2011

LAFAYETTE, La. - The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots women's basketball team defeated the Louisiana-Lafayette Rajun Cajuns by a final score of 63-50 on Monday night at the Earl K. Long Gym. The contest was an exhibition game for the Lady Pilots while being the season-opener for the Ragin Cajuns.

LSUS, whose record will remain at 1-2 for the season, can build on this big win over NCAA DI opponent despite it not counting toward their record. The Lady Pilots shot just 33% from the field for the game but played outstanding defense as they force the home team to turn the ball over 23 times throughout the contest.

The visitors nailed 38% from the three-point line making six out of 16 tries while converting on 17 of 21 attempts from the free-throw line for 81% for the game.

UL (0-1) had trouble getting off good shots against the Lady Pilots stellar defense as they shot just 30% from the field, only three of 15 from downtown and 11 of 17 from the charity stripe. The home squad finished with two scorers in double-digits; Mercedes Johsnon (14) and Kemi Rotibi (10). Rotibi finished with a double-double with 14 rebounds.

The Lady Pilots edged the Rajun Cajuns in rebounding as they grabbed 44 to the home team's 43 with 28 boards coming on the defensive side of the ball.

Jenna Diakos led the Lady Pilots once again on the scoreboard with 11 points and captured the double-double pulling down 15 rebounds, 11 of which were on defense, leading all rebounders for the game. Christy Willis was the only other Lady Pilots in double-digits as she finished the game with 10. She was two of six from downtown and four of five from the free-throw line.

Sharde Henry and Meoshi Bradley each had eight points while Kylie Leonards and Tynekqua Warren each provided seven points off the bench. Every Lady Pilot that saw action on the floor tonight scored at least two points and all but two collected a rebound. Next to Diakos, Simone Brewer had the second most boards with seven.

The Lady Pilots will get back in action on the regular season schedule with a meeting next Monday, Nov. 21st, at The Dock, against former GCAC foe Xavier University of New Orleans. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
