Lady Pilots Shut Out Belhaven 2-0 in GCAC Opener

September 12, 2007

Jackson, Miss. - The LSUS Lady Pilots defeated Belhaven 2-0 in Wednesday’s Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opener.  The defending 2006 GCAC champions didn’t waste any time finding the back of the net in yesterday’s game.  Junior Julia Vaughan opened up the scoring in just the fourth minute of the game to give the Lady Pilots an early 1-0 lead on her sixth goal of the season.  Senior Rachel Alexander was credited with an assist on the goal.

The Lady Pilots would notch another first-half goal when Calandre Singh knocked a shot in with just under ten minutes to play in the half.  Alexander picked her second assist of the game on Singh’s goal, tying her season high.

Goalkeeper Kelsi McNew picked up the win in goal for the Lady Pilots.  LSUS (5-2, 1-0) has won four consecutive games, and is currently in first place in the GCAC standings.
