Lady Pilots' season comes to a close
November 02, 2012
SAN ANTONIO, Tex. - The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots saw had their season ended with a 3-0 loss to the Our Lady of the Lake University Saints on Friday afternoon. The Saints scored a pair of insurance goals in the second half to prevent any chances of a comeback by the Lady Pilots.
LSUS (9-7-1) had very little offensive production against the Saints this time around after posting 15 shots against the OLLU defense a few weeks ago in Shreveport. Today the Lady Pilots only managed seven shots with only three on goal. Sandra Quintero led the way for the Lady Pilots with four total shots and one on goal. Shay Wells made nine saves in her final game with the Lady Pilots.
The Saints (9-8-1) will advance to the semi-final round of the RRAC Tournament with today's win over the Lady Pilots. OLLU will play at Northwood next Friday (Nov. 9) against either UT-Brownsville or Northwood at a time that has yet to be determined. The Saints got goals from Stephanie Diaz and Amanda Lozano in the second half of today's match to seal the deal.
OLLU pounded 12 shots in the first half compared to just one shot from LSUS. The Lady Pilots played better defense the final 15 minutes allowing the Saints to take only four shots as compared to eight that they took during the first 30 minutes of the contest.
The Saints got on the board with a goal during the 21st minute on an unassisted goal from Stephania Vazquez. Wells made seven saves in the first half for LSUS.
Unfortunately the Lady Pilots will say goodbye to eight seniors from this year's squad: Shay Wells, Kelly Boss, Heather Nosky, Brooke Martin, Jessica Carrion, Sandra Quintero, Mary Warfield, and Kyleigh Hinson. Their leadership will be missed on and off the field.
