SHREVEPORT, La. - The no. 14 LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots women's basketball team took down the defending Red River Athletic Conference Champion from a year ago defeating no. 14 Langston Lionesses 71-44 on an unusual Saturday afternoon at The Dock in front of a slim crowd.
LSUS (6-1, 2-0 RRAC) had three scorers reach double figures of this year's favorite to win the conference again. Jenna Diakos led all scorers with 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season and also had three steals. Langston (1-6, 1-1 RRAC) shot just 29-percent at The Dock and placed only one scorer in double figures with Lexus Smith tossing in 10 points off the bench.
The Lady Pilots minimized their turnovers but still need work with 13 turnovers today. The defense stepped up big forcing Langston to turn in over 16 times as LSUS outscored the visitors 22-5 off turnovers.
LSUS pulled out to a big early lead as Langston scored their first bucket of the contest nine minutes into the contest when Lexus Smith made a layup to cool the sizzle of the Lady Pilots who then had a 13-0 run. LSUS led at the break 32-20 but it could have been a lot worse since they only shot 38-percent in a half where both teams pulled down 16 rebounds.
The LSUS defense forced 12 turnovers in the first half leading to 18 of their 32 first-half points.
