Lady Pilots picked to finish 2nd by RRAC Coaches

WACO, Tex. - Defending conference champion Langston University (Okla.) emerged as the top selection in the 2012-13 Red River Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Preseason Poll by the slimmest of margins. The Lady Lions edged LSU Shreveport by one point in the voting by RRAC head coaches. Both teams received four first-place votes. Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) and Texas Wesleyan University were picked to finish third and fourth.
LSUS missed out on the number one prediction by just one point but Head Coach Ronnie Howell agrees with Langston at the top, "Langston has won the league four years in a row so until someone knocks them off they deserve to be picked number one."
If there is a team to knock Langston off the pedestal this year it could be the Lady Pilots who return five starters from a year ago. However, the RRAC has proven to go down to the wire with four games separating the top three teams from two years ago and four games between the top four teams last year.
"I think the league will be as close as the coaches have picked it to be. I believe it's going to be a dogfight every night and with us playing 22 conference games that makes for a long grueling road. There are about five teams that have a legitimate chance to win the conference and I just hope we come to play every night and we are there with a chance to win it in the end," said Howell.
The Lady Pilots will begin their season on November 9th and 10th with a pair of road games, then an exhibition game before opening up at home on November 16th at 6 p.m. versus UT Tyler. LSUS will begin the RRAC Conference Schedule on the road on November 29th at Texas College. Their first RRAC game at The Dock will be on December 1st against the defending RRAC Champion Langston at 2 p.m.
