September 01, 2009
Oklahoma City, OK--The LSUS Lady Pilots (2-0) soccer team defeated Oklahoma City University on Monday afternoon 2-0 at Stars Field.
The first half was scoreless as both teams had some great passing and defense. LSUS had four shots on goal and OCU had three.
The Lady Pilots got on the board at 12:45 into the second half as freshman, Tarah Arrington, scored her first goal of her LSUS career. “I knew it was just a matter of time before she scored and believe me, this won’t be her last, “said head coach Jed Jones.
LSUS continued to put pressure on the opposition with good passing creating more opportunities to score goals. The Lady Pilots had a three on one situation as Ashley Pope scored the second goal as Rachael Knight and Martina Dosen got the assists as they helped their team to a 2-0 lead with 12 minutes and 18 seconds remaining in the game.
The Lady Pilots finished a solid game defensively and won 2-0. LSUS had a total of eight shots on goal and OCU with only five. Freshman keeper, Torie Calhoun had five saves and earned her second shut out of the season.
Head coach, Jed Jones, “This was a great road trip for us to come out with two wins. We made some mistakes on Saturday but survived. Today was a complete turnaround, as we created a lot more chances and didn’t make nearly as many mistakes. And the mistakes we did make today, we did a great job of recovering from those mistakes quickly so they did not hurt us.”
The next game for the Lady Pilots will be Friday, September 4th, at LSUS’, The Swamp, against the University of Texas-Brownsville at 5 p.m.
