Lady Pilots move on to RRAC Finals

March 03, 2012
WAXAHACHIE, Tex. - The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots advanced to the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament Championship Game as they defeated the Texas Wesleyan Lady Rams 67-54 on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center on the campus of Southwestern Assemblies of God University. The title game will be on Monday at 5 p.m. against the winner of the Our Lady of the Lake and Langston.

Christy Willis hit a three-pointer 17 seconds into the game sparking a 15-2 run for the Lady Pilots.

LSUS (25-7) never trailed in the contest as they grew their lead to as big as 13 in the first half and stretched the lead to 20 in the second half.

Willis led all scorers with 21 points as she drained four from downtown and finished seven of 12 from the field.

LSUS added two more to the double figures list with Jenna Diakos making an impressive eight of nine from the field and one of two from the charity stripe to finish with 17 points while Jennifer Hicks was a perfect four of four from the free-throw line and made three from the field to finish with 10 points. Sharde Henry added nine points and Meoshi Bradley eight.

The Lady Pilots shot 51% from the field on a day that they added 11 of 12 from the charity stripe while Texas Wesleyan shot just 35% and a slim 17% from downtown making just three of 17 from beyond the arc.

Monday the Lady Pilots will play for their first tournament championship as they take on the winner of the OLLU/Langston game. With a Langston win then the Lady Pilots would advance to the NAIA National Tournament no matter the outcome of the Championship Game. If OLLU advances to the championship then the winner of the Championship would advance to the National Tournament.
