Lady Pilots lose overtime thriller 2-1 to SUU

October 23, 2005

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Lady Pilots played host to the Southern Utah University Thunderbirds Sunday afternoon at the Swamp looking for their third victory of the year over an NCAA Division I opponent. The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie throughout regulation forcing overtime for the first time in LSUS soccer history. Just 3:18 seconds into the extra frame, Shaley Ipson gathered a loose ball in front of LSUS goal keeper Sarah McLean and drove home the game winner to improve the Thunderbirds record to 6-3-6 on the season.

The Thunderbirds jumped out 1-0 at the 29:20 mark of the first half when Erica Berlin collected a rebound and punched it passed a defenseless McLean.

The Lady Pilots found themselves down 1-0 at the half but tied the score 13:30 into the second half when Calandre Singh broke through the Thunderbirds defense and drove a left footed shot from the top of the box just inside the right post for her 8th goal of the season.

Each team was only able to put three shots on goal in the second half and needed extra time to break the 1-1 tie. The Thunderbirds pushed the ball into LSUS territory and a failed clearing attempt by the Lady Pilots allowed the Thunderbirds to attempt a shot from the left corner of the box. Tara Olson attempted to put a shot on goal but her shot was partially blocked and ricocheted to Ipsley who gained control and drove the ball into the bottom right corner to give the Thunderbirds a 2-1 victory.

The Lady Pilots (11-4) will now look forward to Friday afternoon when they will take on the William Carey College Crusaders in the first round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30pm and will be played at the University of Mobile.
