February 10, 2009
NEW ORLEANS, La. – No. 21 LSUS lost for just the third time this season, dropping a 64-55 decision to the Dillard Lady Blue Devils on Monday night.
LSUS (20-3, 10-2) struggled shooting the ball early in the contest and fell behind 23-10 midway through the first half. However, the Lady Pilots closed out the first half on a 17-3 run to take a 27-26 lead at the break.
But, in the second half, the Lady Pilots continued to have trouble putting the ball in the basket, as the home team pulled away late for the victory.
The big difference in tonight’s game was at the free-throw line, where the Lady Pilots made just 11-of-19 attempts. Dillard, however, connected on 21-of-30 free throws in the win.
Janai Sells and Whitney Hollins each scored 14 points to lead the Lady Pilots.
With the loss, LSUS is now tied for first place with Loyola in the GCAC standings. The Lady Pilots will take on the Lady Wolfpack on Thursday night at The Dock in a battle for sole possession of first place in the conference.
