Lady Pilots, Lady Badgers Battle to 1-1 Tie on Senior Day

November 09, 2008

SHREVEPORT, La. – 110 minutes was not enough to decide the outcome of today's LSUS/Spring Hill women’s soccer game, as the Lady Pilots ended the 2008 regular season with a 1-1 double-overtime tie on Sunday afternoon at The Swamp.

After a scoreless first half, Spring Hill forward Alison Akers put the Lady Badgers on top 1-0 just three minutes into the second half with a goal assisted by midfielder Sarah Engels.

However, LSUS senior Calandre Singh answered with a goal off of Michelle Talley's assist to tie the game at 1-1.  Caitlin Smith's corner kick led to Singh's goal after Smith hit Talley with the corner who tapped the ball to Singh for the tying score.

Each team had scoring opportunities in both overtimes, but the two goalkeepers never waivered as they both only allowed a single goal on the afternoon.  LSUS goalie Shay Wells picked up five saves versus 14 shots, while Spring Hill goalkeeper Jessica Makowski made three saves against 13 shots.

As a result of Sunday’s tie contest, the Lady Pilots (7-7-1, 2-5-1) will travel to face Lady Badgers (10-6-2, 2-4-2) in the opening round of the GCAC Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.  Kick-off for Tuesday's game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
