Lady Pilots Jessica Kelley earns GCAC Player of the Week Honors
December 07, 2005
Shreveport, LA---The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference has selected Jessica Kelley as Player of the Week. “JK”, a 5’8 junior guard from Bossier City led the Lady Pilots to a 2-0 record on the week averaging 22-points and has the Lady Pilots at 6-2 overall; the best start in LSUS history.
“Jessica is shooting 51% from the floor and continues to be a huge scoring presence for us every night. Throughout our first eight games she has averaged nearly 16.0 points per game and we just hope she continues her consistent play,” comments Lady Pilot Head Coach Ronnie Howell.
The Lady Pilots are averaging 71.7 points per game through their first eight games which is nearly 10 points higher than last season’s 62.0ppg average. While Kelley has played a big part of the Lady Pilot offensive production, Coach Howell believes it is the overall athleticism on the floor that has been the key to the teams early success.
“Jessica knows the game and plays very relaxed which allows her to make good decisions on the floor. We are very athletic at the guard position and can get her the ball with some good looks at the basket, and we can score from the inside or the opposite wing position which makes it hard for opposing defenses to just focus on JK,” concludes Howell.
The Lady Pilots will be off until December 12th when they will travel to Lafayette, LA to take on the Ragin’ Cajuns in an exhibition contest. The Lady Pilots will then be in action against the Northwestern State Lady Demons on the 14th in Natchitoches, LA for their second exhibition contest of the week which will serve as excellent preparation for the Lady Pilot Classic December 16th and 17th which will feature match-ups against Rhema Bible College and the Southwestern Assemblies of God University.
