Lady Pilots fall to Lyon in Belhaven Classic

JACKSON, Miss. - The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots lost to Lyon College in the first game of the Belhaven Holiday Basketball Classic by a final score of 73-66 at Rugg Arena on the campus of Belhaven University. LC was just behind the Lady Pilots in the most recent top 25 voting in the NAIA.LSUS (6-4) shot just 33% from the field in the first half as Lyon College (9-3) countered with 39% as they built a five-point lead at the break 35-30. LC drained half of their shots taken behind the arc (6-12) while the Lady Pilots only made three of nine attempts.
The second half was much more of the same for the Lady Pilots as they shot 36% from the field while LC sparked the nets making 48% of their shots aided by another six buckets from downtown in only 10 attempts. LSUS made three more from beyond the arc but it was not enough.
Sharde Henry led all scorers as the Lady Pilots tossed in 20 and was the only scorer to reach double figures for LSUS. Simone Brewer led the charged underneath the bucket collecting 11 rebounds that tied for the game high. Brewer and Christy Willis each had eight points while Diakos tossed in seven.
LC had two scorers in double-digits; starter Lauren Ramsey had 17 while Erin Roush had the same off the bench. Suzanne Fincham led LC in rebounding with 11 boards.
The Lady Pilots look to rebound on Friday as they take on the host team of the Belhaven Classic. LSUS will tip off at 5:00 p.m. against the Lady Blazers in a rematch. The two teams met back in Shreveport on November 2, with the Lady Blazers prevailing 82-76. BU was just ahead of the Lady Pilots in the last release of the NAIA top 25 Coaches' Poll.
