Lady Pilots fall to Blazers 65-49

February 09, 2004
The LSUS Lady Pilots looked to build on their 5-3 home record when they squared off against the Belhaven Blazers in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play Monday night. Belhaven got the better of the Lady Pilots in December with a 72-57 win. The Lady Pilots entered the game with a 7-14 record, 3-8 in GCAC, one game ahead of the Lady Blazers who stood at 2-9 in conference play. Belhaven however proved to be too much for the Lady Pilots as they won by a score of 65-49.

Tamekia Foley dominated the first half for the Blazers scoring 13 points and collecting 4 rebounds. Belhaven jumped out to a 38-21 lead by the half shooting nearly 50% from the field, connecting on 15-32 attempts. Belhaven was 3 of 6 from the three point line and finished 5 of 5 from the free throw line. Saige Cooper scored 7 points early in the half and was the leading scorer for the Lady Pilots who shot 26% in the half, making only 6 of their 23 shot attempts. The Lady Pilots were 7 of 13 from the free throw line.

In the second half the Lady Blazers continued to build on their first half lead until a late run by the Lady Pilots chipped the deficit to 10 points. That was as close as the Lady Pilots could come on this night as they could not overcome the 17 point half time lead held by the Blazers. Despite outscoring Belhaven 28-27 in the second half, the Blazers picked up their third conference win of the year by a score of 65-49.

Belhaven’s Tamekia Foley finished with a game high 22 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 turnovers and 2 blocks. Colette White pitched in with 12 points and 4 rebounds in the Blazer victory. Dyamond Hogg finished with a season high 19 points for the Lady Pilots to go along with 4 rebounds and 5 steals. The Lady Pilots finished the game shooting 31% on 15 of 47 shooting. Belhaven capitalized on 26 of 56 field goal attempts.

LSUS will be in action again this weekend when they travel to New Orleans to take on Southern University of New Orleans Saturday afternoon, and then match up against Xavier University Monday night.
