Lady Pilots Fall to .500

January 23, 2008

Shreveport, La. - The LSUS Lady Pilots fell to 8-8 on the season after dropping a 62-58 decision to the Xavier Gold Nuggets on Wednesday night at The Dock.

The Lady Pilots jumped out of the gate for an early 4-0 lead after back-to-back baskets by Janai Sells and Edie Leonards to begin the game, but Xavier responded with a quick 11-2 run to take control of the contest in the first half.

LSUS trailed by as many as 12 points with four minutes left to play in the first half, before going on a 8-2 run of their own to cut the Xavier lead down to just six at the break.

In the second half and with the Lady Pilots trailing by a score of 48-44, the Lady Pilots used an 8-0 run capped off by a pair of Whitney Hollins 3-point baskets to take a four-point lead with 6:27 left to play.

After back-to-back three's by the Gold Nuggets gave them a one-point lead, Hollins connected on her third consecutive three pointer, putting the Lady Pilots back in front by one.

However, Hollins fourth three of the game would be the last Lady Pilots field goal, as they were held without a made basket over the last five minutes of the contest.

Xavier outscored the Lady Pilots 8-3 over the final five minutes to hang on for a 62-58 victory.

LSUS was led by Leonards with an outstanding 15-point, 13-rebound performance.  Hollins and Sells also finished in double figures with 12 and 10 points.

The Lady Pilots (8-8, 4-3) will host William Carey University at The Dock on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 P.M.
