January 11, 2005

New Orleans, LA – The Xavier Gold Nuggets (14-1, 3-0) used 40 bench points to defeat the LSUS Lady Pilots Monday night at The Barn.  Sophomore guard Alissa Thompson (Houma, LA) had a career-high 13 points in the Nuggets 12th consecutive victory.

Early action had each team going point-for-point for the first 14 minutes of the period.  Xavier closed out the first half with red hot shooting and tough defense, as junior Victoria Lee converted a lay up off a steal, to give her team a 15-point halftime advantage, 35-20.

The Nuggets continued to dominate during second half action, gaining their biggest lead of 27 points (63-36) with four minutes left in regulation.  On the boards, the Xavier women out-rebounded LSUS 42-32.  Freshmen reserves Kojavona Hamilton, Rynika Hebert, Vyaisha Moss and Patrice Hawkins accounted for 17 of the Nuggets rebounds.

Lee would finish the contest with 10 points, sophomores Sheronda Nash and Jarryn Cleaves contributed eight points apiece.

Renalda Stafford led LSUS (7-9, 1-2) with a game-high 15 points, along with eight rebounds, while teammate Amanda Castle had a game-best nine rebounds.
