Lady Pilots Fall in Home Opener
November 13, 2007
Shreveport, La. - The LSUS Lady Pilots dropped a 77-68 decision to the Jarvis Christian Lady Bulldogs in their home opener on Tuesday night at "The Dock."
Once again, turnovers and poor outside shooting plagued the Lady Pilots in the the loss.
"Before the game tonight, we talked about two things that we needed to do to win the game," said head coach Ronnie Howell. "Keep them off of the offensive glass and take care of the basketball against their 1-2-2 half-court trap. In the second half, they had 10 offensive rebounds and we had 14 turnovers. That's why we came out on the short-end of the stick tonight."
The Lady Pilots turned the ball over a total of 25 times for the game, which led to 28 Lady Bulldog points.
The Lady Pilots also shot a dismal 20% (4-20) from the three-point line in tonight's contest.
One bright spot for the Lady Pilots was the continued solid play from freshman Whitney Hollins. Hollins finished the game with a team-high 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 3-for-6 from the arc.
Jarvis Christian's Lacy Monroe torched the Lady Pilots for a game-high 35 points.
LSUS junior Janai Sells also provided the Lady Pilots with quality play, as she added 13 points and a team-high 6 rebounds.
Edie Leonards and Teokea Wilkerson also finished in double-figure scoring with 12 and 11 points respectively.
The Lady Pilots (1-1) will play again at home on Thursday night against NCAA Division-2 Texas A&M Kingsville. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
