Lady Pilots Fall in GCAC Title Game

New Orleans, La. - The LSUS Lady Pilots dropped a 61-40 decision to the Loyola Wolfpack in the their first-ever appearance in the GCAC Tournament finals on Monday night at The Den.
The Lady Pilots shot just 38% (13-for-34) from the field and turned the ball over as season-high 24 times in the loss.
LSUS jumped out to an 8-2 lead just four minutes into the contest, but the Wolfpack responded with a 15-0 run over the next eight minutes that gave them a nine-point lead and control of the contest.
After LSUS scored three straight points following Loyola's big run, the Wolfpack outscored the Lady Pilots 13-3 for the final eight minutes of the half.
The Wolfpack never looked back in the second half, as they stretched their lead out to as many as 25 points on several occasions late in the contest before settling for a 21-point win.
The Smith twins, Trenell and Trenese, combined to score 31 of Loyola's 60 points to lead the Wolfpack to their second conference tournament championship in the last three years.
Janai Sells was the only Lady Pilot to reach double figures in the loss, finishing with 10 points.
Despite the loss, LSUS will be making their first trip to the National Tournament in Jackson, Tenn., next week as the GCAC's second automatic qualifier. National Tournament brackets will be released on Wednesday.
