November 23, 2005

Marshall, TX---The LSUS Lady Pilots dropped to 4-2 on the season after suffering an 80-65 loss at the hands of the East Texas Baptist University Lady Tigers Tuesday night The Lady Tigers improve to 2-0 on the season for the first time since the 1999-2000 season with the win in their home opener at Ornelas Gymnasium.

ETBU jumped out to a 43-33 lead at the conclusion of the first half, which saw the Lady Tigers, connect on 16-of-34 (47.1%) from the floor including 4-of-11 from beyond the three-point line and 7-of-11 from the free-throw line.

The Lady Pilots struggled to connect from the field shooting just 31.5% (11-of-35) in the first half. “We just didn’t finish. We had some good looks under the basket but couldn’t make them count,” commented Lady Pilot Head Coach Ronnie Howell.

LSUS managed to cut the one time 18 point Lady Tiger lead to seven points with just under 3:00 remaining in the contest and forced an ETBU turnover leading to a fast break opportunity. The Lady Pilots could not connect on the 2-on-1 break and saw the Lady Tigers respond with a three-point field goal Karra Porter to put ETBU up 10 points and out of reach.

The Lady Pilots shooting woes continued throughout the second half as they connected on just 12-of-38 (31.6%) from the field including 0-of-8 from beyond the arc, which proved to be the deciding factor in Tuesday night’s contest.

“When you play a team like ETBU you need to capitalize on your scoring chances. We didn’t do that tonight and that was the difference,” concluded Howell.

Renalda Stafford collected 10 points despite shooting just 2-12 from the field but also added a game high four steals and three assists.
