Lady Pilots fall 65-59 to Lady Badgers

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Lady Pilots played host to the SpringHillCollege Lady Badgers Saturday night at the Dock in GulfCoast Athletic Conference action. Spring Hill jumped out to a 30-20 lead at the half, and held off a second half Lady Pilot comeback to win by a final score of 65-59.

 

Despite shooting only 26% from the field in the first half, the Lady Pilots went to the locker room only down 30-20. The Lady Badgers also struggled from the field shooting only 11-34 from the field. The difference was from beyond the three point line as the Lady Badgers connected on 5-15 three pointers, while LSUS made only 1-10.

 

Erin Huoy led the Lady Badgers offense with 7 points and 3 rebounds, while Nicole Thomas picked up 4 points and 8 rebounds. Renalda Stafford was the leading Lady Pilot scorer with 5 points and 6 rebounds.

 

The Lady Pilots came out hot in the second half and cutthe Lady Badgers lead to 38-35 at the 15:52 mark of the second half. A Kacie Cryer 3 pointer followed by a Marcia Sphyhalski field goal at 7:16 had the Lady Pilots back at 49-50.

 

Mchugh drilled a wide open three with 3:05 remaining to put the Lady Badgers up 57-52. After a Lady pilot time-out, LSUS went on a 4-0 run to trail 57-56 with 1:30 left. The Lady Pilots could not complete the comeback however as the Lady Badgers connected on 2 three point attempts in the final minute and went on to win by a final score of 65-59.

 

Maria Rodriguez led the Lady Badgers with 15 points and 6 assists. Amy Young followed with 13 points while Marcia McHugh had 10. The Lady Badgers shot 61% from the field in the second half which included 6-9 three point attempts. Spring Hill was 10-12 from the free throw line.

 

The Lady Pilots were 16-28 from the field in the second half to improve their shooting percentage to 42% for the game. The Lady Pilots were 4-8 from the three point line in the second half.

 

Kendera Monette was the leading scorer for the Lady Pilots with 16 points on 6-7 shooting and pulled down a game high 8 rebounds. Renalda Stafford pitched in with 13 points, 5 rebounds, and added 5 assists.

 

The Lady Pilots are now 1-5 in conference play and must wait until Thursday night when they will play host to DillardUniversity (13-2, 5-1) to try and improve in the GCAC standings.
