December 04, 2007
Fort Worth, Texas - The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (6-4) notched a 65-58 win over LSU-Shreveport (2-4) in the Sid Richardson Center on Tuesday night.
Free-throw shooting proved to be the difference in the contest, particularly in the first half when the Lady Rams shot just 25% from the field, but hit 11-of-12 from the line.
Texas Wesleyan led 27-23 at the break, and scored the first six points of the second half to take their largest lead of the game at 33-23. The Lady Pilots closed the gap to five points on several occasions, but a pair of traditional three-point plays from Andria Mitchell and Keegan Harry helped the Lady Rams keep LSUS from getting any closer.
For the game, the Lady Rams shot 78% from the free-throw line, outscoring the Lady Pilots 25-13 from the line.
Texas Wesleyan dominated the boards 42-31, and used 19 offensive rebounds to outscore the Lady Pilots 14-7 on second-chance points.
Keegan Harry led four Texas Wesleyan players in double-figures with 15 points, while Andria Mitchell and Sheleatha Simmons both scored 11, and Kim Gatlin added 12 points including eight at the free throw line.
LSUS was led by Quan Joseph’s 21 points and 9 rebounds.
The Lady Pilots will return to action on Thursday night, as they travel to Hawkins, Texas, to face the Jarvis Christian Lady Bulldogs.
