Lady Pilots end two game skid with 77-61 victory over Lady Blazers

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Lady Pilots (6-8, 2-3) had dropped two straight Gulf Coast Athletic Conference decisions going into Thursday night’s contest against the second place Belhaven College Lady Blazers (5-8, 3-2), who were sporting a three game GCAC winning streak. The Lady Pilots ended both streaks Thursday night at The Dock with a convincing 77-61 victory.
The Lady Blazers jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the first half, but the Lady Pilots offense responded in a big way with a 19-5 run and led 21-12 at the 11:09 mark.
Edie Leonards collected two of her 12 first half points from the free throw line with 2:26 remaining extending the Lady Pilots lead to 42-27, their largest of the half.
The Lady Blazers mounted an early second half charge cutting the lead to 50-46 with 15:47 remaining in the half.
The two teams traded baskets through the mid-portion of the second half, and the Lady Pilots found themselves ahead 62-57 with 7:06 to play.
Kacie Cryer capped a 13-1 run by the Lady Pilots after collecting a Jessica Kelly miss and putting it home giving LSUS a 75-58 lead with 1:44 remaining.
Roxana Rogers single handedly kept the Lady Blazers in the contest as she finished with a game high 25 points and five steals. Lurena Robinson added eight points while Meagan Stock finished with seven points. Stefanie Kirkwood had a team high four rebounds for BC who was dominated on the boards by the Lady Pilots by a final 49-26 margin.
The Lady Pilots improved to 5-2 on the year in games which they shoot over 40% as a team after connecting on 29-of-63 (45%) field goal attempts, which was the first time in four games to do so.
Leonards led the way for LSUS with a season high 20 points and 11 rebounds as she collected her first double-double of the season. Janai Sells added 15 points and five rebounds while Kacie Cryer finished with 13. Lady Pilots leading scorer Jessica Kelly added 10 points and collected five boards and three steals.
