Lady Pilots drop season opener to Tech

RUSTON, La. - The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots dropped the season opener on Tuesday afternoon to the Lady Techsters of Louisiana Tech by a final score of 5-0 at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.

LSUS (0-1) played a much better second half as they allowed just one goal to Tech after allowing four in the first half. Shay Wells was busy in the goal for the Lady Pilots as the Techsters pounded a total of 30 shots her way with 15 finding their way on goal and she saved 10.

The Lady Pilots had just a total of four shots in the contest with Nea Sunila leading the way with two while Brooke Martin and Ella Galvin each had a shot.

The Techsters (1-0) got off to a great start with four goals in the first half of play as they scored their first goal of the season during the 5th minute as Brittany Beddow sailed a pass through the LSUS defense to Emily Brennan who found the back of the net for the early 1-0 lead. 13 minutes later Nicole Jaquemet scored on a cross from Laura Lefevour for a 2-0 lead.

Beddow got on the scoring end with a goal during the 39th minute with an assist from Jaquemet. La. Tech added one final goal in the half for a 4-0 halftime lead as Lauren Long scored with an assist from Paige Dunn.

LSUS managed only two shots in the first half but none reached the goal as Galvin and Sunila both shots went wide during the half. La. Tech also had the edge in corner kicks over the Lady Pilots 2-0 in the first half.

The next time out for the Lady Pilots will be their first home game of 2012 at the Swamp as they set to defend the Mayor's Cup in a match against the Centenary Ladies on Monday, August 27th, at 3 p.m. Admission is free but all donations go to benefit the March of Dimes.
