Lady Pilots Drop Heartbreaker to No. 16 William Carey
October 25, 2008
Shreveport, La. – The LSUS Lady Pilots dropped a heart-breaking 1-0 decision on Saturday afternoon at The Swamp, as the No. 16 William Carey Lady ‘Saders remained unbeaten in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play with the win.
William Carey’s Jeana Erickson scored the game’s lone goal, as she put back a rebound off her own missed shot at the 68 minute mark for the game winner.
Defense was the story in the first half, as the two teams battled to a 0-0 tie with each team only attempting four shots apiece in the first 45 minutes of action. However, William Carey went on the attack in the second half as they constantly put pressure on the LSUS goalie by firing shot after shot. Carey launched 13 shots, eight of which were on goal, before the Lady Pilots could ever get a shot off in the final half.
The Lady Pilots did manage to make things interesting in the final ten minutes of play, as Michelle Talley nearly tied the game twice, but came up empty on both occasions. William Carey’s Jordan Morrison made a huge save on Talley’s first attempt at the 82:43 mark, as she knocked the ball over the net, while Talley’s second shot missed just high with four minutes remaining.
With the loss, the Lady Pilots drop to 7-6 overall and 2-4 in GCAC play. They will be back in action next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they take on Belhaven College at The Swamp.
