Lady Pilots Drop First RRAC Game to Langston

SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots women's basketball team suffered their first Red River Athletic Conference loss of the season on Wednesday night at The Dock at the hands of the no. 7 Langston Lionesses by a final score of 73-65.Langston (11-0, 5-0 RRAC) led by as much as seven in the first half but the Lady Pilots rallied to take the lead 31-30 on a pair of free-throws by Tynekqua Warren with 1:15 to play but the lead would not hold as Langston got a pair of three-pointers from Ayanna Jackson in the half's final minute for a five-point lead at the break for the visitors. Jackson and Shontice Simmons led all scorers with 20 points.
LSUS (6-3, 4-1 RRAC) started strong in the second half to build a five-point lead five and a half minutes into the half only to have it deteriorate as the Lionesses erased the deficit and led by as much as eight with six minutes to play. A pair of Sharde Henry's free-throws brought the Lady Pilots to within two with 3:26 to play; Henry finished with 14 points, one of three Lady Pilots to reach double figures.
Victoria Felix stepped up to the arc and drained the shot with 1:42 to play to give her club an eight-point advantage that would hold to a team that shot 43% to remain unbeaten on the season.
The Lady Pilots struggled from downtown missing all nine attempts but won the rebounding battle 43-37 while LU made five of 18 attempts from beyond the arc.
Jenna Diakos (13, 12) and Simone Brewer (16, 12) both earned their third double-double of the season.
The next game for the Lady Pilots will be on Thursday, December 29th, in Jackson, Mississippi, as the take on Lyon College who also received votes in the last top 25 poll. LSUS will then meet Belhaven another team that was mentioned in the poll. The game at The Dock will be on Thursday, January 5th, at 5:30 p.m. against Southwest.
