Lady Pilots dominate HTU in RRAC opener
September 20, 2012
AUSTIN, Tex. - Brooke Martin helped the LSU Shreveport women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over the Huston-Tillotson Lady Rams at the Onion Creek Soccer Complex. Martin had two assists and one goal in the RRAC opener for the Lady Pilots.
LSUS (4-3, 1-0 RRAC) took a dozen shots in the first half as they put some pressure on the HTU keeper. Nea Sunila got the Lady Pilots on the board first during the 18th minute as she capitalized on the clean pass from Martin to put the Lady Pilots on top 1-0.
Three minutes later Martin found another teammate with a cross back to the top of the 18 as Kaitlin Bush netted the second goal of the game for the Lady Pilots during the 22nd minute for a 2-0 advantage which is where the score was at the half.
The Lady Pilots were pleased with their 2-0 halftime lead but they knew that had plenty more to show in the second half. They dominated the Lady Rams again taking a total of 20 shots in the second half but was only rewarded with a goal from Martin during the 53rd minute with an assist to Sandra Quintero.
LSUS outshot HTU overall 32-2 with plenty just inches from going in as the HTU keeper made a dozen saves while the Lady Pilots hit the crossbar and posts several times throughout the game.
"Our offense was really clicking today. It's frustrating sometimes when you come so close to finishing a good pass and it hits the post or the crossbar or the keeper makes a great save and that happened several times today but that's what this game is all about. Our timing is there and we are playing well; I am pleased with our efforts today," said LSUS Head Coach Mike Aguilar.
The Lady Pilots will take on the Lady Lions of SAGU in Waxahachie, Texas, on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Lady Lions played a tight game in the first RRAC-match losing to Northwood 3-2 on Thursday.
