Lady Pilots dominate Crowley's Ridge for first win of season

November 12, 2011
WAXAHACHIE, Tex. - The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots women's basketball team had a dominating performance all around in route to a 96-32 victory over Crowley's Ridge College on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

All 12 players that made the trip for the Lady Pilots played at least 13 minutes and every player contributed on the scoreboard with three of the 12 reaching double figures. CRC did not have any players reached double digit points or rebounds.

This was one for the record books for the Lady Pilots as they broke one team single-game record and tied two others. LSUS made 41 field goals which breaks the ole record of 36 against Tougaloo College on January 22, 2007. As a team today, they blocked a total of 10 shots which ties the record that was set against Xavier University of New Orleans back on February 10, 2005. The Lady also tied the single-game record with 27 assists that was first achieved against Dillard University on January 12, 2008.

Newcomer to the Lady Pilots squad, Jennifer Hicks, tied the single-game record for most individual blocks with eight which is equal to Lisa Bobsy's performance against Williams Baptist back on February 10, 1996. Hicks finished the game with 10 points as she was one of three Lady Pilots in double figures.

Jenna Diakos once again led the team with 16 points and pulled down three rebounds while Sharde Henry recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

"This was a good game for us; everybody contributed and we shot the ball well. There are still some things we need to work on but we are pleased with today's performance," said LSUS head coach Ronnie Howell.

LSUS (1-2) blazed the nets for 51% from the field while CRC (0-4) made only a slim 20%. The Lady Pilots were five of 17 from downtown while CRC was four out of 22. The one down fall for the LSUS in this contest was their accuracy from the free-throw line as they made only nine of 20, just 45%, while CRC drained eight of 10.

The next game for the Lady Pilots will be on Monday, November 14th, at Louisiana-Lafayette 7:00 but it will be an exhibition contest for LSUS and will not count for or against their record. LSUS returns to regular season action the following Monday, November 21st, at The Dock for a 6:00 p.m. tip off against Xavier University of New Orleans.
