Lady Pilots defend Mayor's Cup

SHREVEPORT, La. - Nea Sunila made her name known for in the Mayor's Cup as she netted both goals for the LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots as her school will hang on to the Mayor's Cup at least another year after a 2-0 win over the Centenary Ladies on Monday afternoon at The Swamp.
The Lady Pilots (1-1)got an insurance-goal during the 78th minute of action as a pair of freshman hooked up for a score as Kelsey Ellender crossed the ball to the center to find Sunila as she finished for her second goal of the contest. LSUS dominated the Ladies outshooting them 26-4 with eight finding its way on frame while Centenary had only one on goal but it was saved by LSUS' goalie Shay Wells who had a somewhat slow afternoon minding the net for the Lady Pilots.
Centenary (0-0) had shots from four different players but was kept in check by the stellar defensive line of the Lady Pilots which included the work of a pair of seniors: Kelly Boss and Lindsey Bell along with the help of freshman Jaynie Stewart and sophomore Megan Hussey.
Brooke Martin had the most shots taken with 10 but Sunila took a total of seven shots with three on frame.
LSUS got on the board early in the contest with an excellent corner kick from Martin that found freshman, Nea Sunila, for the first goal of the season. Ella Galvin was also credited with an assist as she received the pass from Martin and then got it to Sunila for the score.
The Lady Pilots pounded the Centenary net as they outshot the Ladies 14-2 in the first half. Martin led the Lady Pilots with six total shots while Sunila had five. Martin also put the most on goal for the Lady Pilots with three compared to Sunila two on frame.
The next contest for the Lady Pilots will be on Friday, August 31, at LeTourneau in Longview, Texas, at 5 p.m. The Lady Pilots next game at The Swamp will be on Labor Day, September 3, at 4 p.m. versus UT Tyler.
