Lady Pilots defeat Texas College

TYLER, Tex. - (Box Score) The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots picked up a tough road win in the Red River Athletic Conference opener on Thursday night as they defeated Texas College 80-77. Both teams shot the ball reasonably well each placing four double figure scorers.

LSUS (5-1, 1-0 Red River Athletic Conference) shot 43-percent in their conference opener with a pair of double-doubles from their leading scorer, Jenna Diakos with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and their leading rebounder Victoria Smith with 13 rebounds and 15 points. Diakos was nine-for-12 from the floor and Smith was seven-of-nine from the charity stripe.

Sharde Henry netted 18 points including a pair from downtown while Christy Willis added 18 points of her own on a night where the free-throw line aided the Lady Pilots making 17 out of 22 attempts to help them get by the home team.

Texas College (1-6, 0-1 RRAC) was led by the game's leading scorer Keyara Criner who netted 21 points while Sekeya Roberson added 18 points and Ashli Smith had 13 points and Connie Espinas a dozen. Their lone double-digit rebounder was Shirley McGowen who had a dozen rebounds on a night where LSUS won the rebounding battle as well 47-36.

Turnovers were still an issue for the Lady Pilots as they turned the ball over 22 times but were able to offset with the defense forcing 15 turnover of their own and the rebounding margin. Texas College shot 44-percent from the field and 77-percent from the line but the difference was that LSUS shot 77-percent from the charity stripe.

The next game for the Lady Pilots will be a big one as they face last year's RRAC Champion and this year's favorite Langston University (1-5, 1-0 RRAC). The Lionesses lost their first five games of the season but they were to some tough opponents as they come into The Dock riding their only win of the season a 74-68 win over Bacone tonight. Tip-off at The Dock is set for 2 p.m.
