Lady Pilots Defeat Spring Hill in GCAC Tournament Opener

November 11, 2008

Mobile, Ala. - The LSUS Lady Pilots picked up a 3-1 win over Spring Hill College in the opening round of the GCAC Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

LSUS (8-7-1) opened the scoring with a penalty kick goal by Michelle Talley following a foul by SHC midfielder Sarah Engels in the goalkeeper’s box in the 24th minute.  Talley then gave the Pilots a 2-0 lead in 42nd minute with an unassisted goal past the SHC keeper.

The Lady Badgers answered with a goal in the 53rd minute by forward Allison Akers, who accepted a rebound off a missed Badger shot and put the ball into the lower right corner of the net.

Jessica McDonald iced the game for LSUS in the 71st minute with another goal off a rebounded shot.

Freshman Shay Wells of Hammond, La., made nine saves versus 22 shots by Spring Hill to earn the victory in goal and help the Lady Pilots advance in the tournament.

With the win, the Lady Pilots will travel to William Carey to face the No. 1 seed Lady 'Saders in the semifinals on Thursday afternoon.  LSUS will look to avenge two losses to William Carey earlier this season and advance to the tournament finals.
