LADY PILOTS DEFEAT MACU

August 30, 2009

The LSUS women’s soccer team (1-0) won their first game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Mid America Christian University in Oklahoma City, 1-0.

Neither team was able to score in the first half of play as the Lady Pilots took a total of six shots on goal. MACU did not have as many chances with only a total of two shots on goal.

The second half of play brought a lot more scoring opportunities for both sides. LSUS had a total of four shots on goal and MACU had nine.

The Lady Pilots got the only goal of the game at 18:41 from Brooke Martin, a freshman from San Antonio, TX) with an assist from Caitlin Smith (JR from San Antonio, TX).

The freshman keeper from Tyler, TX, Torie Calhoun played a great game in goal for the Lady Pilots. She saved a total of eleven shots, nine of which came in the second half, to record the first shutout of the season.

Head Coach, Jed Jones, “This is a great win for us. The ladies played hard and we survived some chances that MACU had there at the end of the game. Torie did a great job of keeping them of the board.”

The next game for the Lady Pilots will be on Monday afternoon at Stars Field in Oklahoma City against OCU at 1 p.m.
