Lady Pilots crush Southwest

SHREVEPORT, La. - Christy Willis recorded a triple double for the LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots in a 98-51 pounding of the Southwest Lady Mustangs at The Dock on Thursday night. In addition to the triple-double the Lady Pilots recorded three more double-doubles and set a new team record for rebounds in a single game.Willis' triple double consisted of the game-high 13 rebounds and 10 assists. She added a dozen points in 28 minutes of action. Jenna Diakos led all scorers with 23 points while pulling down 10 rebounds while Jennifer Hicks tossed in 19 points and pulled down 11 boards. Victoria Smith pulled down 11 as well and tossed in 10. Sharde Henry was all over the floor as well and missed being the fourth double-double by a point and a rebound with nine points and nine rebounds.
The Lady Pilots (7-5, 5-1 RRAC) played stellar defense rejecting seven shots by their opponent as Hicks led the way with three and Leonards had two. Amanda Fontenot grabbed seven rebounds and tossed in four points. LSUS led by a double-dozen with a 44-20 dominating first half performance in which they shot 43%. Jenna Diakos led the scoring with 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Christy Willis drained three from downtown to finish with nine points in the first half along with 11 rebounds.
LSUS shot 44% from the field for the game and dominated the glass grabbing 71 rebounds to USW's 39 setting a new single game team record for a single game. The previous record was 55 set back on November 3, 2006, against Paul Quinn.
Southwest (6-7, 1-6 RRAC) shot a slim 18% in the first half as Johnnelle Kapua led the squad with six points. The Lady Mustangs shot better in the second half of play at 32% to have four shooters finish in double figures as Ni'Kendra Sylvester led the way with 11 points while Johnnelle Kapua, LaTeasha Sheldon, and Anika Hostos all had 10 points.
The next game for the Lady Pilots will be on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. as they travel to St. Thomas University in Houston for a RRAC matchup. The next game at The Dock will be next Thursday, January 12, 2012, at 5:30 p.m. against Jarvis Christian.
