Lady Pilots collect third straight GCAC victory

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Lady Pilots (11-12, 7-7) jumped into fifth place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference standings Saturday night after cruising to a 66-50 victory over the William Carey College Lady Saders at The Dock.
The Lady Pilots defense held the Lady Saders to just 8-of-24 shooting from the floor and forced 11 turnovers in the first half en route to a 32-20 lead at the break.
LSUS led by as many as 13 points early in the second half before WCC managed to dwindle the Lady Pilots lead to 52-45 after a Jansci Newsome field goal with 5:56 remaining.
The Lady Pilots however answered with an 11-2 run and led 63-47 with 2:57 remaining, and cruised through the final minutes to a 66-50 victory.
LSUS outrebounded WCC by a 39-37 margin and committed three less turnovers (19-16). 11 Lady Saders tallied points in Saturday’s contest; Fallon Hartfield led all WCC scorers with 10 points while Newsome finished with nine points and four rebounds.
Edie Leonards continued her tremendous play in GCAC competition posting 22 points on a spectacular 9-of-11 shooting while adding five rebounds and five assists. Teammate Kacie Cryer added 14 points and a team high seven rebounds.
Saturday’s victory marks the first ever three game GCAC winning streak for the Lady Pilots who now sit alone in 5th spot in the GCAC standings. The Lady Pilots will look to continue their climb up the GCAC ladder Monday night when they will play host to the 1st place Loyola University Wolfpack. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
