Lady Pilots beat Lady Badgers 56-54

February 18, 2006

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Lady Pilots responded from a 34-27 deficit at the half against the Spring Hill College Lady Badgers by starting the second half on a 16-2 run. LSUS stretched their second half lead to as many as seven points, but the Lady Badgers cut that lead to 55-54 with 0:33 remaining after Marcie McHugh drained her second three-pointer of the contest. Lady Pilot Jessica Kelly was sent to the line with 0:10 remaining and connected on one of two attempts giving the Lady Pilots a 56-54 lead. On the ensuing possession Kelly stole the ball from Maria Rodriguez and ran out the clock preserving the Lady Pilots 13th win of the season.

LSUS held the Lady Badgers to just 5-of-18 from the field in the second half after a 12-of-26 (46%) performance in the first half. Rodriguez led the Lady Badgers with 11 points on just 3-of-12 shooting while teammate Nicole Thomas added 10 points and a team high eight rebounds while Reshonda Belton finished with 10 points and two rebounds.

The Lady Pilots forced 19 turnovers while committing 18 of their own and won the battle of the boards by a 31-29 final margin.

GCAC Player of the Week Marcia Spyhalski collected the games only double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Kelly finished with 12 points and a game high six steals. Kacie Cryer chipped in with 11 points.

A poor shooting performance in the second by the Lady Pilots (7-of-21) which included a 2-of-7 effort from beyond the arc was made up for by a 13-17 performance from the charity stripe.

With the win, the Lady Pilots moved into a tie for 5th place with the Lady Badgers in the GCAC at 4-6.
