Lady Pilots back in the win column
September 13, 2012
PINEVILLE, La. - The LSU Shreveport women's soccer team snapped their two-game losing streak on Thursday afternoon with a 3-1 win over the Lady Wildcats of Louisiana College at Wildcat Stadium.
Brooke Martin assisted on the lone goal of the second half as she got the ball to Sandra Quintero who jived her way around the LC keeper, who charged the oncoming ball handler, and nailed it from 18 yards out for the score.
LSUS (3-3) got on the board first as mid fielder Heather McCutchen intercepted a pass from the LC defender and sent a long pass over the LC back line to find Brooke Martin who beat the keeper with a header to put the Lady Pilots on top 1-0 during the 8th minute.
The visitors added another score on the board during the 41st minute as Kelsey Ellender scored her first goal of the season with the help of Kelly Boss following an LSUS' corner kick.
The LSUS defense weakened as the end of the half drew near as Alex Corne scored for LC with eight seconds to play in the half to trim the LSUS' lead to 2-1.
LC (3-3) played much better in the second half despite allowing the goal as the shot totals at the end of the match were close but the Lady Pilots came away with the edge 11-7 with an impressive eight on goal.
The Lady Pilots will host Southern University of Baton Rouge at The Swamp on Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. for their last game before beginning a road trip to Austin, Texas, and Waxahachie, Texas, to begin RRAC play next week.
